MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police arrested a man and charged him with killing a mother and her son over the weekend.

Investigators found Laura and Ronnie Winborn dead in a home on Vivia Avenue Friday night.  Ronnie's children, ages 3 and 5, found the mother and son not breathing and ran to a neighbor to ask for help.

Tuesday morning, police announced that they arrested 28-year-old Derrick Smith and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder in perpetration of a robbery.

Family of Ronnie and Laura Winborn said while the arrest brings some relief, they still fear for their safety.

Police said he is only one of the suspects in this double murder.

That neighbor called police. Family said as details begin to surface, it’s hard to imagine what went on in that home.

"It’s a really scary situation. It’s terrifying to know you’re not safe anywhere. It was hard enough going in there the first time. You want to stand there and say something, speak to me. Something tell me what happened in here," said Laura’s niece Mary McCay.

"We don't know. Did my aunt suffer? Did my cousin suffer? We don't know. What was the reason for it?" said McCay.

But one thing family members said bothers them most is that Ronnie’s guns were missing from the home. They said Ronnie had a permit and obtained many guns legally. They aren't sure how many are missing, but some of those guns may now be on the streets.

Police say two of those guns were located in the arrest of Derrick Smith.

"These are people that are already wanted and running and they have weapons out there. They aren't afraid to kill anybody. They have already shown people they aren't afraid to come into your house," said McCay.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
