A Memphis man in now behind bars after police said he shot at a car with kids inside after robbing the family of $700.

Police arrested Corry Taylor, 29, after a reported robbery at the corner of Venable and Margot Streets.

Police say a man met Taylor at the corner of Venable and Margot Streets.

Reportedly, the man showed up with his wife and kids looking to buy Air Jordan shoes Taylor had for sale.

Police said when the man walked over to the truck Taylor pulled out a gun. The police report said after walking the man back to his car and seeing the two kids inside, Taylor said “I'll have a crime scene up in front of your kids."

The family handed over the money, and when they were speeding away, Taylor reportedly shot twice.

"I'm scared to go anywhere really because there is so much crime," said Evelyn Stone-Bailey.

Some Memphians said crimes like this show criminals are becoming more desperate.

"If you don't steal, you're going to do something that's not right to get what you need to survive," said Stone-Bailey.

Stone-Bailey said there may be only one way to fight back against this type of crime.

"We need a whole community, whole neighborhood to take care of each other," said Stone-Bailey.

Corry Taylor is being charged with both aggravated robbery and assault charges. He is expected in court on Wednesday.
