A man was robbed on South Main Street just about midnight on Sunday morning. It happened in the 400 block of South Main, across the street from the Memphis Fire Station. According to a police report, he was walking home and was approached by a teen who asked him what was up.

He replied “What’s up” and then kept walking to his door. As he was typing in the security code to enter his building, he was punched in the back of the head. The victim fell to the ground and the group took money from his wallet and ran.

The victim suffered a cut lip and a concussion. He was robbed of $80 from his wallet.

“I can’t believe that; that’s crazy,” said Abel Albonetti. “That’s very sad. You should be able to go to your door and not get hit in the head.”

This is the fourth robbery on South Main since late June.

Just this week, 18-year-old Keywon Murphy was arrested for aggravated robbery and sexual battery for a robbing a couple at gunpoint near South Main street on June 28th. Police say he was one of four men involved.

But even with a string of summer robberies, police said overall crime in South Main is down 11 percent year to date.

The victim believes the suspect was at a party nearby. Police report they have only been called to that address one time since January 1, 2015.

No suspects are in custody and police continue to investigate. There is surveillance video from a neighboring building but it’s unclear whether that will lead to an arrest.
