The Memphis Police Department will host a charity bowling tournament Saturday, August 29.

It is called "Striking Out Hunger," and will take place at Billy Hardwick's All Star Bowling Lanes located at 1576 White Station Road.

The tournament will start at 10 a.m. It costs $30 to bowl, but all donations are welcomed. Proceeds will go to Feed the Needy, a local non-profit organization.

Ruth Banks Rawlings, Chairman of Feed the Needy, praised MPD for their continuous support of the organization.

“The Memphis Police Department (MPD) is one of several community partners that work to make sure Feed the Needy has resources to provide food baskets to persons and families during the holidays. Over the past several years, MPD has provided invaluable help to the organization.  They are hosting the bowling tournament for the second year,” Banks said.

Officers realize hunger is a growing problem in the Mid-South and are glad to support and participate in the charity bowling tournament.

“Our officers are glad to individually support and participate in this event. In our line of work, we often meet people on one of the worst days of their lives. Sometimes hunger is the underlying problem.  Feeding a family can help resolve many of these situations. Last year, the Memphis Police Department helped Feed the Needy distribute over 2000 food baskets to families across the Mid-South and we want to again support this massive and vital effort.” Major Sandra Green of The Memphis Police Department said.
