MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A police chase ended on I-240 Friday morning, shutting down the highway for several hours.

Around 9 a.m., officers saw two men stealing law equipment near the intersection of Whitney Avenue and North Trezevant Street.

As officers approached their car, the driver backed up, hitting one officer in the arm and damaging the officer's unmarked car.

The suspects then sped off, tossing a weed eater out of the window as the police officers pursued them.

The suspects took the I-240 westbound ramp at Watkins Road, but their tires blew out, forcing them to pull over.

When officers captured the men, they learned the suspects were also driving a stolen car.

Back in the neighborhood where this all started, neighbors said crime is a problem.

Neighbors said they're fed up and are taking matters into their own hands. They're buying safety equipment like storm doors and bars to put on their windows.

Most of all, they're thankful police caught these two suspected crooks.

"Don't need that at all," said neighbor Nick Hayslett. "I work too hard."

You'd think 28 wins over the last three years would enough for a program to feel pretty good about itself going into a new college football season, especially for a program that had trouble just sniffing any victories a few season ago.
