MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Memphis family can breathe a little easier knowing police made an arrest in the death of their 19-year-old son, Craig Lambert, also known as Cody.

Former White Station graduate and honor student, Cody was shot and killed on March 30 at Hadley Park just off the campus of Tennessee State University in Nashville.  US investigators arrested his accused killer, former TSU student Brandon Horton, in Hawaii late Thursday night.

Craig Lambert Sr., Cody's father, said, "We've been praying for this for a long time, and I wanted to give God all the honor and all the credit."

Cody Lambert was on a scholarship at TSU, majoring in mechanical engineering.  Investigators said that four witnesses first told officers Lambert was playing with a cat when a gun fell out of his pocket, and he accidentally shot himself in the head.

However, detectives later discovered that Cody's death was a homicide.  "This was no accident. A cat wasn't involved and so on so on so on we need to hold people accountable," said Lambert.

The first arrest was 19-year-old Brandon Horton, who is expected back in the next several days, and more arrests may follow. Investigators said Horton was going on with his life as if nothing happened while a Memphis family continued to grieve the loss of their son.

"I've always thought that when you're a witness on the scene and you don't disclose the truth you are an obstruction of justice," Lambert said. "And so we'll let that law take care of itself."
