MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

An elementary school principal was placed on suspension following allegations that he physically harmed a student.

In a letter to parents, Shelby County Schools vaguely explained what happened involving LaRose Elementary School principal Robert Davis and how they're handling the situation.

However, some parents don't believe that the allegations are true.

"I heard also from the school that's not what happened," said LaRose parent Gladys Wright. "Some kids got to fighting and then he broke it up. Which is understandable when kids are rough."

Parents said the accusations do not match Principal Davis's general character and disposition.

"I mean, he takes money out his own pocket for the students," said Wright. "He's just really good. I have no problem with LaRose."

It is unclear how long Davis will be on administrative leave.

Elaine Stewart Price was nominated as his replacement. She has more than 30 years of experience in the district.
