Memphis artist Adam Exelbierd portrays many iconic Memphis symbols.

Friday night, at an event at the FedexForum, Exelbierd speed-painted the Piggly Wiggly mascot. However, his take on another Memphis staple caught our eye.

"Ice storm '94," said Exelbierd. "It was Dave Brown, Dave Brown, Dave Brown."

Dave has delivered the weather all of Exelbierd's life.

"I mean, every time you turn on Action News 5 and something's going on with the weather, it's Dave Brown," added Exelbierd.

Exelbierd shot a video of himself creating his tribute to Dave in his home studio, complete with a forecast.

"Once he announced his retirement, I just kind of figured, 'hey, it'd be a cool way to recognize him and tribute him and if he would like to have it, I'd love for him to have a piece of my art,'" he explained.

Not only has Exelbierd watched Dave on TV over the years, he's also had a few personal encounters.

"I used to live in an apartment on Rembert, across from the station," he recalled. "So, as he was driving in everyday for the news, my roommate and I would yell 'Dave Brown!' and he would wave out of his Corvette and point at us, so it was kind of like we thought we were psyching him up to go give the weather to the rest of Memphis."

Exelbierd said Memphis and the Mid-South won't be the same without Dave on the air.

"You know, if you're going to start painting the legends, you might as well start with Dave Brown."
