MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

It's a good thing Monday was a beautiful day, because Dave Brown's last show was busy enough.

"It has been a tremendous ride," Dave said.

At WMC Action News 5, the evening was filled with pictures, hugs, friends, family, presents, and a giant cake.

Among his parting gifts, Dave received a Louisville Slugger Dave Brown edition bat from the St. Louis Cardinals themselves.

Dave's departure was about three years in the making. Ultimately, he said he has no regrets.

"I'm feeling good about the whole thing," Dave said.

Dave added that he has heard from viewers via cards, letters, Facebook posts, and tweets.

"I can't personally respond to each individually," Dave explained. "I want everybody to know I've seen them and how much I appreciate them."

He did get to thank one fan in person--artist Dan Ross delivered an incredible portrait of Dave on his final day.

"This is how a lot of Mid-Southerners feel about Dave. I'm just able to visually put my expression on canvas," Ross said.

Memphis Mayor A C Wharton stopped by the WMC Action News 5 studio to express official regards in the form of a proclamation.

"Whatever is going on in this city, hey, as long as we can see Dave Brown, there's relief in sight, and that's what you've stood for," said Wharton said.

Dave has not only been a beacon of hope for those at home, but also for those of us who had the honor to work with him.

Dave's calm voice in the storm will be greatly missed, but he had one final message for his viewers.

"So, I may leave you, Mid-South, by simply and sincerely saying thank you."
