Three business owners earned a $25 thousand forgivable loan from the Inner City Economic Development program.

"It would mean so much to the community," said Jim and Samella's House Restaurant owner Talbert Fleming. "It would let the community know that business can thrive in this area, and not only that, it can be able to display and see exactly what this area is becoming."

The Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis and Shelby County (EDGE) uses local government funds to create loans to help businesses beautify. EDGE matches the loans at a one-to-two ratio for work already done or future projects in the works.

"I think from a morale perspective, it boosts the neighborhood so the residents would be more inclined to come in spaces," said EDGE Economic Development Specialist Dorian Spears. "It also opens the opportunity for people from outside of the neighborhoods to come in."

EDGE said they hope to revive and restore Memphis businesses-- the diamonds in the inner city.
