MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Show your gold and lace up your running shoes.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is encouraging people to help in the fight against cancer through social media and walk/run events around the country.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and St. Jude is using the hashtag #showyourgold to raise awareness across sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Users can upload their own photos, and add virtual gold accessories to show support for St. Jude patients.

Ellen DeGeneres shared a photo on Twitter featuring her on the set of her talk show, with a gold heart added to her jacket.

The campaign builds towards the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in dozens of cities around the United States, the majority scheduled for September 26.

WMC Action News 5’s Joe Birch and Kendall Kirkham are co-captains on this year’s WMC team in Memphis, with a fundraising goal of $1,500. You can sign up to join the team here.
