Relief from the heat

WMC Action News 5 WMC Action News 5

It’s been downright hot in the Mid-South and Monday will mark our 11th day of afternoon highs in the sweltering 90s. We have been sitting several degrees above our average temperature of 89 degrees for the past few days. With only about two weeks left until the first day of Fall (September 23rd!), Summer is making one last push. The hot and humid conditions will stick around through Wednesday, but then a cold front will finally grace us with some cooler air.

The front will start moving closer to our area late Wednesday, and some thunderstorms will likely fire up ahead of the front. The best chance for rain will be on Thursday when the front finally makes its way into through the Mid-South. We are not expecting anything severe, but heavy rain is certainly a possibility on Wednesday and Thursday. I recommend checking the interactive radar on the StormTrack 5 App before you leave the house those days.

The front will move east of our area early Friday, and much cooler and drier air will settle in behind it. Winds will shift to the northeast behind the front, which will allow a much cooler air mass to usher in more comfortable weather. Highs will only be in the mid 80s next weekend and overnight lows will hover in the mid 60s.
