MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Shelby County School District leaders are preparing for a major groundbreaking this week.

Last year, district leaders agreed to close and tear down Westhaven Elementary School and promised to build a new school to replace it.

The previous school was plagued with problems including holes in the ceiling, moldy pipes and asbestos problems.

SCS said it'll take one year to build the new school.

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for Tuesday afternoon in the 4500 block of Hodges Road.
