SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

The ex-wife of pro golfer John Daly, Sherrie Miller, is wanted on charges of extortion and harassment.

Investigators said Miller found sexually explicit pictures of another woman on her boyfriend's phone.

She texted the woman and threatened to post the pictures on social media.

The woman contacted investigators with proof that Miller actually did post the pictures to social media.

Miller’s attorney Mark Mesler said he is surprised that what he calls “mudslinging” has escalated to charges.

"It always shocks me when people air their dirty laundry," Mesler said. "With anything like this, there are two sides to every story."

Investigators said the harassment charge stems from several threatening text messages Miller sent to the woman.

"I can see two people going back and forth. As ugly as it may get and mudslinging as it may be doesn't usually arise to a crime, so I'm very curious why they're charging her with a crime."

Mesler said he is specifically surprised by the extortion charge.

"It requires that she's had to be seeking some kind of monetary gain or some advantage or some property or something. She had to be seeking advantage in some way and I'm curious to see what advantage that is just posting something on Facebook."

Court records reveal the charges come amid another entanglement between Miller and the same woman. Miller took out an order of protection against the woman Thursday over alleged text message threats against Miller.

WMC Action News 5’s Kontji Anthony reached out to the woman, a local middle school teacher, but got no response.

Mesler said Miller was lenient by stopping at the protection order.

"It showed a measure of restraint on her part that she could have sought charges based on what she was alleging, but she didn't," he said.

Miller is no stranger to controversy and legal action. She was sentenced to 90 days in prison in 2014 after her son accumulated 52 absences from Germantown Middle School, but the sentence was reduced to 30 days of community service. Later, a judge said her son was on honor role and there's no good explanation for his absences.

Before that, she was jailed on contempt of court charges related to a child custody battle involving Daly.

She also served five months in Federal prison in 2006 after pleading guilty to a conspiracy charge related to a drug and gambling operation.

In the coming days, Miller will surrender to authorities to face the charges. The other woman reports to court September 16 to face the order of protection complaint.
