A grandmother is crediting her family for fighting off an armed man who smashed his way through a window.

The home invasion took place just feet away from where a mother of 5 was shot and killed Monday.

Many neighbors are now living in fear, but the family is just happy to be alive.

"I was frightened thinking he was going to kill all of us," the grandmother said.

Friday, she was watching her four grandchildren while her daughter was at work. While the children were asleep, she said she heard glass shatter.

Her 15-year-old grandson woke up to find a man climbing through the back bedroom window. He said he and his younger brother jumped on the masked man.

"[He] hit my grandson, knocked him to the ground.”

The man also had a gun. He fired a shot inside the house before running out of the home and fired another shot before climbing back out the window.

The grandmother said this is not the first time her home has been broken into, but it is the first time they were home when it happened.

Now, the family is living in fear of their safety and has hopes of moving out.

"By the grace of God no one got hurt. No one got shot."

Police are still looking for the person responsible for this home invasion.

If you have any information, please call the Memphis Police Department.
