MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The student who was initially thought to be an active shooter at Mississippi State University may return to class next semester.

Police arrested Bill Nguyen on campus August 27 shortly after issuing an active shooter alert.

It turned out, Nguyen did not have any weapons and was not a threat to anyone.

Investigators arrested but never charged Nguyen, because they did not have any evidence that he threatened or put anyone at risk.

Nguyen's lawyer said MSU decided to allow Nguyen to re-enroll for the 2016 spring semester.
