Memphis Zoo and Metal Museum receive funding increases

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Two of Memphis’s main tourist attraction spots will receive funding to help increase tourism in the area, so Memphians can look forward to new and exciting upgrades at some of their favorite spots.

Congressman Steve Cohen announced that the Memphis Zoo was awarded two grants totaling $627,160 for facility upgrades and research projects. The Metal Museum was also awarded $26,000 to help digitalize its archives.

“This infusion of federal funding will support and improve our city’s world-class zoo for all Memphians and help attract tourists,” Cohen said.

Both grants were from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary supporter for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 35,000 museums. This organization is engaged in grant making, policy development and research help libraries and museums advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement.
