With record low turnouts for Black Friday, online retailers are hoping shoppers will take advantage of amazing deals from the comfort of their homes, especially in the Mid-South on a rainy Cyber Monday.

For another year, Cyber shopping is set to surpass Black Friday sales.

"We've got more cyber shoppers than we've ever had before," said online expert, Brent Shelton

Shelton said retailers now have a better understanding of their audience.

He noted that online shoppers are also more in tune with stacking discounts and will abandon their shopping carts in they do not get free or discounted shipping.

Shelton said deals on items like electronics are still popular, but shoppers prefer store wide discounts.

"When a store has a discount across the board, for example Old Navy has 40 percent off, The Gap has 50 to 70 percent off store-wide, so there's a lot on sale that isn't normally on sale when you get individual sales," he explained.

Shelton said one of the biggest consumer influencers this year are mobile exclusives.

Research from reveals:

  • 52 percent will shop online via laptop
  • 37 percent will shop from a home computer
  • 29 percent will shop via mobile device or tablet
  • Only four percent will shop via smart watch

"It's all about trying to make it convenient for people on their smart phones, tablets, and even online shoppers," said Shelton. "They  want them  to shop when they want to, they don't want them to wait for any specific time anymore."

Whether on your phone or computer, if you plan to shop online this year for friends and family, remember clothing and shoes are still at the top of most people's wish list.
