Man charged with attempted murder for shooting man in face

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man was arrested after shooting a man in the face when a drug sale turned into a robbery.

The shooting happened on April 16, 2015. Police were notified of an aggravated assault in the 4800 block of Winchester Road.

Two victims told police they were meeting two men to buy marijuana. One victim said a man named “Bay Bay” asked him to see the money and tried to grab the money and run.

According to the affidavit, the victims tried to leave in their car when they were shot at.

After they escaped, “Bay Bay,” a man named “Young Mike” and their associates found them and “Young Mike” fired several shots. One of the shots hit one of the victims in the face.

An undercover officer saw the chase and got behind the vehicles.

The victims’ vehicle eventually wrecked and the man was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Michael Covington, also known as “Young Mike” was later identified and was finally arrested on February 5, 2016.

Covington is charged with four counts of attempted aggravated robbery, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of being a felon with a firearm and one count of reckless endangerment.
