A standoff at the Value Place Inn on Shelby Oaks Drive ended after 12 tense hours.

Police took two people into custody-- 22-year-old Jibria Smith on felony drug charges and 25-year-old Zachry Jones on aggravated robbery charges.

Police said both people barricaded themselves in the hotel.

Nobody was harmed during the arrest, but Jones is accused of robbing two different hotels at gunpoint last month.

An employee at one hotel Jones is accused of robbing said she can sleep a little easier now.

"It's a relief that he's finally locked up,” she said.

She said she has been more cautious since that day and said others should be as well.

"I looked away for something, then when I looked back, he had the gun on me and he told me ‘don't move,’” she said. "Be very mindful of who's around you, who's coming back and who's doing what."

People staying in the Value Place Inn said they were woken up at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to police banging on their doors. They were told to get far away from the hotel and have not been allowed back since.

"Right now we are out here evacuated and we're just waiting to see what's going on," one hotel guest said.

"Please come out because I don't want you to get hurt. I don't want anybody to get hurt,” another said.

Police brought a MATA bus for those staying at the hotel to keep warm in. They had been standing outside in pajamas for hours.

Since the Value Place Inn is an extended stay hotel, some people have been living there for months and said all of their belongings are inside. They said staying outside in the cold without an ID, money or proper clothing was frustrating.

"I've spent eight hours in the cold in my pajamas and my house shoes,” Carolyn Shove said. “All my money is inside. I've been sick and now I've been booted out of my home away from home and it appears nothing is being done.”
