MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Baby Miles continues to battle and defy the odds.

Miles was sent home Thursday after a tough start to 2016 that included a complication in a surgery that left him with a trach. It was a procedure that Miles' mother said almost cost his life.

Miles was able to go home from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, but is in need of 24-hour care before having surgery in March to remove the trach and reconstruct part of his airway.

Since Miles is in need of 24-hour care, his father Timothy has to leave work and take care of Miles.

With the family losing half their income, the staff at the hospital is helping to raise money for Miles and his family.

“Our needs feel great at times too, but we realize how blessed we are to have brought our son home again, to have access to Le Bonheur and their staff, as well as such a strong support system to care for us when we are at home,” Miles’ mother Amanda McCollum said.
