MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Memphis-based, nationally recognized dance company is giving people living with Down Syndrome a platform to showcase their artistic side.

Company D will perform their brand new performance called LOCAL. Company D organizers call the performance an exemplary show to represent individuals with Down syndrome in the area of the performing arts.

Dancers in Company D are praised for their musicality, inspirational impact, and unique ability to shape the culture of their community one step at a time.

Some of Memphis' most talented dance professionals worked with the ensemble to create LOCAL. Guest choreographers include Rafael Ferrerras of Ballet Memphis, Wayne Smith of Project Motion, Kevin Thomas of Collage Dance Collective, Emma Crystal of Playhouse on the Square, and Amanda and Jerry Gonzales.

LOCAL is inspired public places in Memphis where the landmarks' historical cycle shifted from vital existence, to structures on the wane, to renewal. Each choreographer selected a site in the community to compose their section, and hopes that the piece will evoke personal memories in each audience member.

You can see LOCAL Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. each night. The performance will be at Hutchison School, 1740 Ridgeway Road in Memphis.

Each ticket is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Purchase your ticket online here.
