A Better Mid-South: TNReady failure

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5.

A computer crash led to the cancellation of all Tennessee state testing at Tennessee public schools this week.

The TNReady online tests will now be done with paper and pencil this year.

Education Commissioner Candice McQueen said she has lost confidence in the testing vendor, Measurement Incorporated.

You think? See these tests not only grade the students, but the teachers as well.

Teacher's groups have argued this is not a valid way to assess educators.

Leaders of the teacher's groups are pointing to this crash as validation the system can't be trusted.

State education leaders are going to have to do some fancy footwork to restore faith in a system that has already failed.

If we must have state testing, for gosh sakes, let's make it reliable so we can have stronger students who will make this A Better Mid-South.
