MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A would-be burglar was shot at while attempting to break into a home.

Police arrived at the 3400 block of Powell Avenue. Police said the woman who owns the home pulled out a gun and shot at the would-be burglar.

The homeowner told police Michael Smith Jr. harassed her all day Monday. He was banging on doors and windows. The victim called her next door neighbor, who tried to come over and help her.

When the neighbor tried to come inside the house, Smith tried to follow him inside. Smith failed to get inside, but he went to the back of the house and kicked in the back door. He looped back around to the front of the house and started kicking the front door.

Smith broke out the front window and the homeowner fired shots at him with her handgun

Smith took off in a white Chrysler and asked an officer for help. The officer noticed he had a cut on his arm and originally believed he had been shot. However, the cut was determined to be from the broken window.

Smith was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition and later taken to jail.
