MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man accused of killing a mother four years ago is on trial.

Fred Beal is charged with the murder of Amelia Campbell in 2011. One of Campbell's three children was with her at the time.

Police said Beal was planning to rob Campbell, but shot her in the back of the head. Another man, Brandon Holmes, was with him at the time and told police he was involved in the crime. He also said Beal fired multiple shots.

Beal and Holmes were 16 and 17 years old respectively at the time of the crime.

The shooting happened in July 2011 in the 2300 block of Shasta Avenue in Hyde Park. Another victim, Travis Metcalf, was shot in the back as he tried to run away.

Years ago, Campell's son, Julian, said he wishes his mom was still alive.

"I miss my momma," Julian said. "I said, 'momma,' and I miss her."

Beal faces a first-degree murder charge. His lawyer said he expects the jury to find him not guilty.
