MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One person is dead and another injured after a car crash at Austin Peay Highway and Coleman Road on Friday.
Investigators said a Buick Century and a Chevrolet collided with each other.
According to the police report, the driver of the Chevrolet, William Laprodd, 26, told police he was on Austin Peay when the light turned red. He continued through the intersection and hit the Buick Century as it was making a turn.
The passenger of the Buick was taken to Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition. She later died from her injuries. Police identified her as 22-year-old Aries Brooks.
The driver of the Buick, Erby Johnson, 29, was taken to Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition.
Police said they smelled intoxicants on Johnson. He consented to a blood draw.
Police arrested Johnson at Regional Medical Center and charged him with DUI, driving while license is revoked/suspended/canceled, state registration, financial responsibility and public intoxication.
Laprodd was also arrested. He is charged with vehicular homicide/reckless, disregarding a red light and state registration.
