Man wearing woman's wig sought in Family Dollar robbery

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Police Department are searching for a man who robbed a Family Dollar.

The robbery happened at 11 a.m. at the Family Dollar in the 5200 block of South Third Street, near Robco Lake and the Tennessee-Mississippi border.

Police said the robber came into the Family Dollar store, pointed a silver handgun at the cashier and made her empty the cash register. He then told her that he wanted her to clear out a nearby safe as well. When she told him she didn't have the combination to the safe, he left.

The robber was wearing a black women's wig and a face full of woman's makeup. The robber was also wearing a purple women's jacket with fur around the hood.

K-9 officers helped in the search while an MPD helicopter circled overhead, trying to spot the robber in the woods behind the store.

After about two hours of searching without finding the suspect, police halted the search.
