MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Memphis mother mastered an emerging model of entrepreneurship.

She calls herself "corpreneur"--someone who has a full-time corporate job as well as successful personal entrepreneurial endeavors.

Her name is Clarissa Joi. She works at a Fortune 500 company, and she's a motivational speaker.

Speaking to thousands of people around the word was never something a shy, young Joi thought she'd do.

She broke out of her shell with an emotional post on social media.

"I'd become a single mom. My daughter was only one year old, and I thought, 'You know, I overcame this, so let me share that with others,'" Joi recalled.

The response was overwhelming, and it flipped a switch inside.

"At that point in time I didn't really care about what people thought about me. I was my most open and genuine and transparent self."

Now, Joi has a massively popular online profile.

Every morning at 8:30, she gives a live motivational speech on Periscope. Periscope is an live online broadcasting tool featured on Twitter.

In addition to her daily Periscope broadcasts, Clarissa now books coaching and motivational engagements.

She said faith drives her.

"You know the fears, they eventually go away--once you are really at your core, working in your purpose and passion."

She's written an eBook on balancing corporate life with an entrepreneurial spirit. She tapped into her master's degree in business and combined that with her IT and accounting experience to create the eBook.

"People were coming to me with ideas and asking me about my ideas and suggestions about their business and being entrepreneurs and it just really spun off from there."

Joi said her best piece of advice is to never give in, never give up, and never pretend that everything will fit into the perfect box.

She also gave three building blocks to success:

  • Dedication
  • Work Ethic
  • Faith

Joi explained all three of those building blocks during her Facebook Live session, which you can watch below:

Joi said growing up, her parents were pastor and first lady of a Memphis church. She said that gave her a great foundation.

Her mother pushed her academically. She learned the value of hard work from her father and grandfather.
