MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A FedEx employee is in jail accused of stealing pain killers out of shipments at the Memphis hub.

Investigators arrested Clarissa Crawford on February 25. They said video showed her taking bottles of pills out of boxes coming through FedEx's hub.

Police said video showed her taking bottles of hydrocodone and oxycodone. Police estimated the value of the pills she's accused of stealing to be more than $4,000.

"This has been a growing problem and this has been a recurring problem,” Pharmacist Bill Johns said.

Johns said there is an increasing number of people overdosing by illegally taking prescription drugs.

"(They) either get very, very sick, or they can get very, very dead,” Johns said. “One way or the other, it’s a big danger.’

Johns said the bigger problem is the street value of pills that cost about $1-2 with a prescription.

"On the street, they can be as much as $80 a pill,” he said.

FedEx released the following statement:

"The security of our customers’ shipments is important to us and we are very serious about protecting those shipments.  We don't tolerate theft by our employees and we will take decisive actions when someone crosses the line.  Our security procedures are very effective, but we don't publicly disclose that information."

Crawford faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and theft of property over $1,000.
