MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Stax Music Academy celebrated Black History Month in a way that only the "Blues City" can by putting legends of Motown on display.
Students from all across Memphis packed Stax Academy on Thursday as the Stax students put on an awesome show for the hundreds in attendance.
"It's like so awesome. I love the rhythm. I love the people, they are full of enthusiasm. It's just, I love it," Jennifer Fletcher said.
The performance's theme was "Memphis to Motown." From the Jackson 5 to the Supremes, music legends were on display. The performances were thrilling for both the performers and those sitting in the crowd.
"It's really amazing to see people our age doing the things that maybe other kids don't get to do or get to live, so it's really fun and exciting," Jazzmun Norman said.
The free student show was just a preview for the main show Thursday night at Minglewood Hall in Midtown.
The cost to see the show is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. All the money goes to the benefit the Stax Music Academy. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
