Southaven Intermediate School and Greenbrook Elementary were given an all clear after both went on lockdown.
Southaven Police Department said someone stole a car near the two schools.
Police took one person into custody, but a second suspect ran off. The outer doors of the schools were then locked to keep the students inside safe.
No students were injured or put in danger. The lockdown was simply a precaution because of the suspect, who was later taken into custody.
The schools were dismissed on regular dismissal times.
