Police rule 2003 Graceland Inn shooting a homicide

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police have ruled a shooting from 2003 a homicide.

Police said on September 1, 2003, a man was shot at Graceland Inn.

They identified the victim as 54-year-old Jeffrey Atherly. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

After an investigation, police determined Atherly was walking into the inn towards his hotel room when a man approached him and aimed a gun at him, demanding money.

Atherly was shot during the robbery.

On December 27, 2015, Atherly died due to a brain injury from the gunshot wound.

The shooting has been now ruled a homicide. No arrests have been made
