MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

An abandoned house that caught fire Tuesday morning soon turned into a crime scene when officers found a body inside.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control at the Frayser house on Mountain Terrace Street near St. Elmo Avenue. Memphis Fire Department spokesperson Wayne Cooke said no one lived inside the home.

Once they got inside, they called for crime scene tape to surround the house after they found a body inside.

MFD later identified the body as a woman. The age and name will not be released until they can positively identify her and notify next of kin.

The body was found in the front room after a partial roof collapse.

The cause of the fire was later determined to be an electrical malfunction.

Firefighters hope this is a reminder for people to stay safe.

“We also encourage residents not to be in or around vacant structures. They can be dangerous,” Cooke said.
