A Better Mid-South: Fighting against blight

A Better Mid-South: Fighting against blight

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5:

I absolutely love when people take problems into their own hands and look for solutions.

Juan Salter is one of those people. Salter is upset about the rundown houses on his street and in his neighborhood.

Salter filed a complaint with the city online.  He listed his complaint in the "overgrown weeds" section. The city closed the case when they drove by and didn't see any overgrown weeds.

What about the vacant home that is falling apart behind the weeds that weren't there?

Now Salter is posting videos on the internet to show everyone the problem Binghampton residents are dealing with.

And he's hoping Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland will take notice and help find a solution.

What do you think about this approach? Also, do you think the city is responsible for getting rid of blight? Email me at abettermidsouth@wmctv.com or go to my Facebook page, A Better Mid-South and post a comment there.

Juan Salter, thank you for what you are doing to make this a Better Binghampton and A Better Mid-South.
