MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis firefighters rescued a man from a burning home Wednesday morning, and then he was arrested.
MFD was called to the 2400 block of Charjean Cove around 9:30 a.m. It took them just 10 minutes to put out the flames.
Fire officials said the man, later identified as Eric Jones, escaped the fire, but then went back in.
His brother told police that he was trying to harm himself, and that's why he ran back into the home. His brother also said that Jones told him he was going to set his house on fire.
"Never re-enter," MFD Lieutenant Wayne Cooke said. "Smoke can overcome you and you can get trapped. It can become severely dangerous to you. We recommend once you are out, stay out."
The man was taken to the hospital with minor burns to his hands.
Jones was charged with arson.
