MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Dixie Queen employee was shot outside the business in Raleigh on Wednesday afternoon.
Memphis Police Department said the call came in around 5:50 p.m. Officers responded to the parking lot of the Kmart, near the Dixie Queen, in the 3100 block of Austin Peay Highway.
"I was in the drive thru about to order," Taj Hardrick, customer, said. "It was terrifying. I've never seen nothing like that before in my life."
Hardrick said she saw a man, identified by coworkers as a Dixie Queen employee, get shot in the parking lot of the location in front of the Raleigh Kmart.
"And somebody said 'I told you stop playing', and he shot him," Hardrick said.
Chopper 5 flew over the scene and noticed dozens of police cars and crime scene tape at the Dixie Queen and the Kmart parking lots. Chopper 5 could could see paramedics working on the victim, who appeared to be shot in the leg.
"On my way to work I saw the police flying by and I was like 'Lord, don't tell me,'" Laquita Jones, Dixie Queen employee, said.
Jones said a female employee had just been into an argument with the man who got shot. Jones said the man threatened to pour hot grease on the female employee.
Jones said she isn't sure if the shooting happened as a result of the argument, but is hoping it was not the cause of the employee now being in critical condition in Regional One.
All that is known of a possible suspect is that he or she left in a silver sedan, possibly a Chevy Impala.
