(WMC) - When you think of Nina Simone, you think of a woman who told stories through her music.
Simone's website says the iconic singer used her music "to create a legacy of liberation, empowerment, passion, and love."
The 'High Priestess of Soul' could cast a spell on anyone who listened to her music the way she sang with so much feeling.
Since the announcement of the Nina Simone biopic, fans of the singer, and even her daughter, have voiced concerns about it. Now with the biopic coming out starring actress Zoe Saldana, Twitter is in a rage.
People are saying Saldana's casting as Nina Simone was a poor choice, mainly because she's a light-skinned actress and Simone is dark-skinned. In an attempt to portray that, make-up artists used dark make-up to make Saldana look more like Simone; as you can imagine, fans are not having that.
Some Twitter users are even saying the casting choice is so poor, it looks like a joke.
Some in the Twittersphere thought of several dark-skinned actresses who could have easily played Nina Simone, noting Viola Davis and Uzo Aduba as two of them.
Some tweeters compared Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone to Brandy playing Cinderella.
Either way it goes, people are not happy about the biopic.
The movie is set to hit theaters on April 22.
