The Guest House at Graceland holds 'topping' ceremony

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Guest House at Graceland held a "topping" ceremony as builders put the finishing touches on the outside of the soon-to-open hotel.

The final 350 pound gold beam was placed on top of the hotel Thursday. The beam was signed by everyone from Elvis and Graceland
employees to Whitehaven residents. An evergreen tree was also raised along with the beam.

The golden beam and evergreen tree are traditions for large scale construction projects. The new beam marks the completion of the outside of the hotel.

"This is another step in such an exciting year and a half process," Elvis Presley Enterprises C.E.O. Jack Soden said.

The 450 room hotel is expected to open in Fall 2016 with all the flair you'd expect from Elvis. The design of the specialty suites was overseen by Elvis' former wife Priscilla.

Mobile users can view a slideshow of the suites by clicking here.

"Priscilla has had such an eye and such good taste that I mean she would've helped design those suites if we had asked her to or not," Soden said.

What else would you expect from the King of Rock n' Roll than a 464 seat theater designed for both performances and movies. These attractions and others, like a themed restaurant & sports bar and a pool, will keep tourists fully entertained until they decide to walk across the street to Graceland.

"This is going to be a beautiful four diamond resort hotel with all of the amenities," hotel general manager Keith Hess said.

The hotel will also have a huge economic impact on the city of Memphis. It is looking to create 160 new jobs at the hotel. They will have a job fair later this year to fill those job openings.

Though the hotel does not open until October 27, it is already taking reservations.
