MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police are investigating a homicide in the 1400 block of Hicky Cove.
A person called police Saturday afternoon, telling them a person had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying face down on the ground. Police said the victim was 23 years old.
Teddy bears, flowers, balloons and candles mark the spot where family members said Darrell Aldridge, Jr. was shot and killed.
"He was just a good young man," Mary Pickford, neighbor, said.
'Rest in Peace Lil Darrell' is written on balloons and on the ground in chalk in the area.
Family and friends of Aldridge said he was shot and killed while sitting in his car outside his aunt's home. They said an argument broke out between two people nearby and Aldridge was shot unintentionally.
"They drove up in a truck and started shooting," Square Corbin, neighbor, said.
Police said the suspects were last seen heading northbound on Weaver Road in a grey truck.
One neighbor said he heard about four or five gunshots.
The shooting happened as Corbin's two small grandchildren were outside playing.
"They came running in the house and I asked 'what's going on out there?' and they said somebody shooting," Corbin said.
Police are looking for two black men: one is described as heavyset, wearing a black shirt with a black mask covering his face and dreadlocks.
"I couldn't believe something had happened to him," Pickford said. "He was just too quiet and mannerable."
No arrests have been made. Police have confirmed this is the 42nd homicide in Memphis in 2016.
