MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Whitehaven man was indicted on attempted murder and other charges after he was accused of shooting and critically injuring a Memphis police officer during a traffic stop.
Investigators said 30-year-old Daniel Jefferson shot Organized Crime Unit officer Robert Armor in the leg on April 2, 2015 in the 900 block of Hester Road. The officer survived the shooting.
Police said Jefferson drove away, but investigators caught him at his home a short distance away from the shooting. A loaded 9mm gun was found in his backyard.
According to District Attorney Amy Weirich, a grand jury indicted Jefferson on Thursday for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault on a police officer, employment of a firearm in commission of a dangerous felony, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
Jefferson is in jail on a $2 million bond.
