Ole Miss community mourns death of associate dean

OXFORD, MS (WMC) -

The Ole Miss family is in mourning as they reflect upon the death of a member of their community.

Professor James Chambers died in a house fire early Sunday morning. He was an associate dean for research and graduate programs in the School of Engineering at the University of Mississippi.

Chambers was also an associate professor in the mechanical engineering department.

Firefighters are still investigating the fire that killed him.

Ole Miss Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey S. Vitter released the following statement regarding Chambers' death:

“The University of Mississippi is shocked and heartbroken to learn about the tragic death of Jim Chambers, the associate dean for research and graduate programs with the School of Engineering. Jim was a respected leader, dedicated teacher and mentor, and accomplished scientist who had tremendous impact in our community. We offer our condolences to Jim’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them. The entire Ole Miss family is here to support Jim’s family during this difficult time.”
