MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

In February, the Central Gardens community's beloved newspaper carrier, Jeff Cain, died after his newspaper truck crashed, causing him to break twelve ribs.

The 60-year-old, who lived alone and was hearing- and speech-impaired, left behind his sweet and friendly dog, Adam.

On a GoFundMe page to raise money for Cain before his death, neighbor Louis King wrote, "Jeff has been delivering newspapers in Midtown almost his whole life and even non-customers know him by his kind attention and words. When someone hears I live in Midtown, they'll ask: 'Do you know Jeff?'"

Neighbors noticed Adam in Cain's back yard and after many posts on NextDoor.com, they began caring for the dog through the fence before Memphis Animal Services took Adam away.

The neighborhood rallied to get Adam out of MAS and found him an adopter to avoid euthanasia, as he recovers from heart worms.

Neighbors have high hopes Adam will soon find a forever home and they're asking anyone with a loving heart to come forward.

Contact jen@nextdoor.com, if you want to adopt Adam.
