(WMC) - Years ago, Donald Trump running for president would have sounded absurd to political pundits, but "The Simpsons" writers didn't think so.
In an episode of "The Simpsons" that aired 16 years ago, it was predicted that Republican front-runner Donald Trump would become president.
In the episode called 'Bart to the Future,' Bart takes a look at his adult self, quite similar to Homer.
Lisa, on the other hand, is the first straight, female president of the United States. She learns from one of her aides in The White House that the country is broke following Trump's presidency.
According to "The Hollywood Reporter," the TV show's writer Dan Greaney said the line "the country is broke," was a warning to America.
According to Greaney, Lisa needed problems that were beyond her fixing and that's why they chose to make Trump the president before she was elected.
The running joke on "The Simpsons" is now a reality in the sense that Trump is running for president.
The question is: Will the problems "The Simpsons" predicted come true if Trump becomes president?
