MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One teen boy is in custody after another teen was shot and seriously injured Friday afternoon in Whitehaven.
Memphis Police Department said it learned of the shooting around 5:30 p.m.
There were half a dozen police cars in the 1800 block of Wilson Road during the investigation.
Witnesses said the gunfire started along Wilson Road in Whitehaven just after the rain stopped.
"Next thing I know I saw police putting crime tape around. I'm like 'oh Lord, somebody done got shot," one neighbor said.
The neighbor was already fearful of crime in the area.
"All I saw was the guy. He was laying on the sidewalk, not in the street," the neighbor said.
Investigators said that there was some type of previous arguments between the suspect and the victim that led to the shooting.
The victim, a 16-year-old male, remains in critical condition at Regional Medical Center.
The neighbor said the shooting happened real close to her home and a church.
"I really hate that it happened. For it to be as close to me, that's even scarier," the neighbor said.
The suspect, also 16, was taken into custody. Police have not released the names for the victim or suspect.
