MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man has been charged after his two-year-old daughter was found critically injured with a belt around her neck. Police confirmed Monday afternoon the young girl died from her injuries.

30-year-old Christopher Presley has been charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect and aggravated child endangerment. Police said Presley will face additional charges as a result of the child's death.

The incident occurred in the 3700 block of Nehemiah Way on Friday.

Neighbors said Presley came running out of his home screaming with his daughter wrapped in a towel.

"I heard a scream from the father when he came outside," one neighbor said. "He was screaming, 'I need to go to the hospital!'"

Police originally investigated the incident as an accident. Presley told police that his two-year-old daughter fell down the stairs with a belt around her neck.

"It's crazy," the neighbor said. "I wanted to know how a belt gets around a baby's neck."

Neighbors said this is a reminder that they need to watch their children at all times.

"If you have kids that age, keep a good eye on them. Watch them; just care for them."
