WHITEHAVEN, TN (WMC) -

Whitehaven residents got a chance to experience spending the city’s budget.

Citizens attended a joint community meeting hosted by council members Edmund Ford Jr. and Patrice Robinson on Monday.

They listened to Memphis city directors discuss the budget.

The residents were even given $1,000 each in fake money to put in envelopes marked public safety, sidewalks, street lights and other areas covered by the city budget.

"Now it’s time for us to come together and figure out what we need to do and come with a solid solution to make Memphis better,” Whitehaven resident Towanna Murphy said.

That chance will come next week when Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland presents his budget to the council, who will accept, reject or amend the budget.
