OXFORD, MS (WMC) -

An Ole Miss student studying abroad found himself in the middle of a terror attack Tuesday in Brussels.

The explosions at Brussels Airport killed at least 30 people and injured more than 200.

"It's awful to imagine that someone could do this anywhere, not just somewhere like such a lovely place like Brussels," Collin Nordstrom said.

Nordstrom is studying a semester at Vesalius College in Brussels.

He said he was less than half a mile away from the airport when the bombs went off. They actually rattled his dorm and woke him up.

"It definitely hit a chord that it was so close and something so near and dear to my heart in a way," Nordstrom said.

Nordstrom said when he moved to the area he talked to his family about the possibility of a terrorist attack.

"I'm from New Jersey, so I know what devastation in a place you love looks like," Nordstrom said.

But even he couldn't imagine what it would be like living through such a devastating attack.

"It hurts that I knew all the places that it happened. The airport I was at two days ago. I was coming back from Dublin, and I was in the exact terminal that it happened," Nordstrom recalled.

It took hours for Nordstrom's family to get in touch with him Tuesday. He said Facebook's Check In really helped him connect with his friends and family in America.

"That was a great way to show that I'm still here" Nordstrom said.

However, one of Nordstrom's classmates has yet to check in. He said he's extremely worried and can't imagine what his friend's family must be going through.

"Such a travesty like this you really hope that everyone gets home OK," Nordstrom said.

For his family, Nordstrom said he just wanted them to know he was OK.

"Mom, dad, Kelly, everyone--I'm doing great."
