Man charged with murder in Avalon Street killing

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One person was shot and killed late Tuesday night on North Avalon Street.

The shooting happened just after 10:30 p.m. across the street from the North Memphis Market on the corner of Vollintine Avenue and Avalon Street.

Police said they found the 29-year-old victim lying near the road, bleeding heavily. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Memphis Police Department charged Darick Lane with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm during a felony.

Lane is in jail without bond.

Police said the shooting may have happened after a fight inside the store between the victim and two men.

Officers said they were searching for a white two-door Cadillac CTS. About 10 minutes later, police found a Cadillac CTS with several bullet holes in it a block away on Maury Street.
