MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Rapper Phife Dawg died at the age of 45.

The family of Phife Dawg, member of A Tribe Called Quest, released a statement regarding his untimely death.

“Malik was our loving husband, father, brother and friend. We love him dearly. How he impacted all our lives will never be forgotten. His love for music and sports was only surpassed by his love of God and family.”

Phife, born Malik I. Taylor, passed away due to complications resulting from his long struggle with diabetes.

He was a master lyricist who captured his audience with every word.

One of his most famous lines: "I like 'em brown, yellow, Puerto Rican, or Haitian, name is Phife Dawg from the Zulu Nation," he famously rapped on "Electric Relaxation."
