Police: Man picks wrong 'prostitute', busted for drugs and stolen gun

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man is facing multiple charges after police said he attempted to pick up the wrong prostitute on Wednesday.

Shartavius Turnage, 26, was arrested after police said he tried to pick up a prostitute in the area of Summer Avenue and Lester Street. The problem was the 'prostitute' was an undercover officer with the Memphis police OCU/VICE Team.

After offering the female $20 in exchange for oral sex, according to the affidavit, Turnage was taken into custody.

While he was talking to the undercover officer, the officer saw a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver on the floor board of his car. When the officer took Turnage into custody, she found 73.5 grams of marijuana, 1 gram of cocaine, $6,575 in cash, and live ammunition for the revolver in the car. She then discovered the .357 Smith & Wesson was stolen.

In addition, the incident happened within 1.5 miles of Lester Elementary School.

Turnage was charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture/deliver/sell, patronizing prostitution, and possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
